Fraction Rules Summary
Adding and Multiplying Fractions
To add fractions the bottom numbers (denominators) must match frist, then just add the top numbers.
To multiply fractions they do not need to match and you multiply both tops and bottoms straight across.

Reducing Fractions
Reducing or simplifying fractions is about changing your final answer after adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing fractions.  Reducing changes a fraction to a simplified form by dividing both the top and bottom by a common factor.
For example 2/4 reduces to 1/2.  Anther example is 3/9 reduces to 1/3.

Changing Improper Fractions
Fractions that have a larger top number than the bottom number are IMPROPER fractions.  You almost always change them to a mixed number.
To do that, divide the top number by the bottom and any remainder is the top of the new fraction.  Confused???  Try watching this video and you'll see it's EZ- Video Explanation ( 3 minutes)  http://screencast.com/t/k5lOtb7sd
Practice- Interactive Online Practice- http://www.321know.com/fra57cx3.htm
Just remember ONLY to do this when the top is bigger than the bottom.  Math-drills.com has more practice if you need it.

Mix it up!
Let's mix it up and do some adding and multiplying fractions where we need to change the final answer.

Changing Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions
Before multiplying mixed numbers they need to be changed to improper fractions.  To do that multiply the whole number part times the bottom number, then add the top number, and keep the same bottom number.  EZ right?  No, well maybe this short video will help.

Dividing Fractions
Dividing fractions is EZ. Just flip the second number and multiply, that's it.

Adding Fractions with different denominators
This is probably the hardest to explain. You have to first find a number that both bottom numbers can be changed to by multiplying.  Then you also have to multiply the top numbers by the same thing.  I know, it sounds crazy, but watch-
